YES. Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are a mild form of pimple which look like small, white bumps on the skin.
They are similar to blackheads, in that they are caused by a build up of oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria in the pores and occur most frequently on the oily patches of skin on the nose, forehead, chin and cheeks.
The key to staying clear of whitehead, blackhead, pimples and acne is to keep the pores clean and fine.
- Hygiene is the most important
Wash your face twice a day with a suitable cleanser. For oily/blemished skin, try using a gentle cleansing gel or foam. For those who use make up, a good cleansing oil will also be a good option at night.
- Suitable skincare
After cleansing, follow through with toner, and then a mattifying (oil control) moisturizer in the day and hydrating moisturizer in the night.
Weekly mask made of gentle bentonite clay (leave on no more than 8-10mins) and a non sulphur pimple cream. Look out for sign of sensitivity like redness and flakiness. This is a sign the products are too harsh.
- Never pick your whitehead/blackhead/pimple
The bacteria in the pores will be pushed deeper into the skin and may cause further inflammation. This will cause the affected area to be more serious
Besides good skincare routine, get enough sleep, exercise and drink lots of water. Eat well with lots of greens/fruits to keep your immune system strong. Besides aerobic exercise, meditation and yoga are good to keep mental and emotional health while keeping your body flexible.
