Redness with itchiness, warm to the touch and occasional scaly patch are common symptoms of sensitive skin.
If not attended to, as sensitive skin may trigger the immune system to react, it may turn into eczema. When the skin is sensitive to external aggressions including pollution, allergens, tobacco etc, it shows signs of distress. Extreme weather change, high temperature like hot bath, heated swimming pool, sauna are not advisable.
And of recent days, the occurrence of sensitive skin has increased much more due to invasive aesthetic treatment like laser facial and glycolic acid peel.
Hence, as a practicing beautician, we handle sensitive skin with alot of care.
To soothe sensitive skin, here are our suggestions.
- Use an ALL Natural Sensitive Range
To soothe hyper-sensitivity irritated skin, it is important to find a trusted good quality skincare brand (refer Skin Care Tips in Singapore). A full range of sensitive products which include cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer and sunblock will ensure the skin is shielded from allergens.
Guinot Hydra Sensitive Range is filled with natural ingredients like Aloe Vera, Bisbolol, Vitamin E, Centella Asiatica has helped many with sensitive skin.
- Do not use harsh cleanser or exfoliator
Building a healthy skin barrier is our main goal in caring for sensitive skin. It is important not to use harsh cleansing foam or kernel exfoliator which disturbs the water and oil content of the skin.
- Do not rub your face or have facial massage
Use a clean face towel to gently pat dry your face. If you go for a facial, do request for an anti-sensitive facial with cold serum with little massage.
- Say NO to fragranced products, essential oil and chemical
Some who have sensitive skin may avoid putting skincare altogether as they are afraid their skin may be sensitive to certain allergen. With no protecting cream on the skin surface, sensitive skin will never have the chance to recover too. Finding a trusted brand designed just for sensitive skin is very important. As one may grow out sensitive skin (just like with eczema), you can then move on to anti-aging or hydrating skincare when the skin has grown stronger.
